Sundowns are reported to have folked out around R18.5 million for Saavedra, and this could spell an end to Gaston Sirino‘s time at Chloorkop.

For months now, Sirino have been pushing for a move away from Sundowns with Al Ahly his preferred destination.

However, Sundowns denied him that opportunity at the start of the season as they felt he was still very much part of their plans going forward.

WHAT’S NEXT FOR SIRINO?

Sirino understands that the proposed move to Al Ahly may NOT happen given the relationship the Egyptian giants have with Sundowns.

And that relationship is soured by the fact that Sirino’s former coach, Pitso Mosimane, is at Al Ahly hence Sundowns’ decision to reject their offer.

Locally, Orlando Pirates are reported to be very interested in the Uruguayan attacker – but whether or not they can afford him is a different discussion.

The imminent acquisition of Saavedra could mean Sundowns are trying to move on without Sirino, and they could replace the money used to buy the Bolivian midfielder by selling the 30-year-old.

Sirino isn’t playing with the same energy and intensity for Sundowns – and, maybe that’s because he doesn’t want to be at Chloorkop.

The only goal he scored in 11 appearances so far this season was Sirino’s biggest contribution for Sundowns, and perhaps, it’s time for some reality check.

Sundowns should do right by Sirino by granting him his wish, especially having used him sparingly since the Al Ahly reports surfaced.

After his stats this season aren’t a true reflection of Sirino’s potential, and keeping him at the club would undoubtedly be killing his career.
