Mngqithi also followed up with an update on the Kekana, who joined Sundowns from Supersport United in the off season, on a free transfer.

Since joining from crosstown rival side, Kekana has proven to be a revelation for Sundowns. He has surprised many by being able to break through a star-studded side, with his versatility proving key. The former University of Pretoria-Tuks player has featured at both centre back as well as right back to aplomb so far this season.

That is why Mngqithi as well as Sundowns fans would have been gravely concerned after he was audibly in significant pain, after a clash from a Pirates player left him clutching his knee on the ground. That sight and audio alone would’ve been enough to suggest that Kekana may have injured himself badly and may be out of the game for a long time. However, the latest update from the Sundowns mentor could provide just enough positivity to ease those concerns.

Mngqithi speaks on injury extent

Obviously we will miss Grant, who got injured in the previous match, but the boy is looking good. At this stage, there isn’t much. They are going to do an ultrasound, but it does not look very bad, though at the same time we don’t want to preempt what’s going to happen, the good thing is that he can walk already, though the patella had moved from its original position, We are just hoping that there is not much damage on the ligaments.” Mngqithi told the Sundowns media department.

Kekana has made 15 appearances for Sundowns in the DStv Premiership this season, and will be hoping to recover in time to add to that amount.
