Mamelodi Sundowns co-coach Manqoba Mngqithi has slammed referee Thando Ndzandzeka and his assistants following his side’s dramatic loss against Maritzburg United over the weekend.

Manqoba Mngqithi believes his side were robbed by the match officials on the day after Maritzburg United scored from two dubious situations in their 2-1 victory.

The loss was only Mamelodi Sundowns’ second loss of the season however Mngqithi feels that in both losses, the match officials were to blame!

“I think we had a very dominant performance. We created far too many chances to win the match,” the Mamelodi Sundowns co-coach said following the match.

“We must blame ourselves for the chances we did not take. When you don’t take your chances you get punished. The only sad thing is we have lost our second match of the season now. And both that we lost were because of dubious decisions.

“In Mamelodi Sundowns’ first defeat to AmaZulu there was a clear offside. In the second to Maritzburg, for the first goal Ndengane was climbing on top of Thapelo, in the view of the referee.

“It’s not that the referee was impeded or could not see, he could see what was happening in front of him.

“Then for the penalty, the boy is diving before Kennedy Mweene even makes a challenge. It results in a penalty and then Mamelodi Sundowns lose a match like that.

“Now you are saying to yourself, ‘Do we have to lose matches because of the decisions of the referees or do we have to lose matches because we are not doing what we are supposed to do?’

“We take the blame for not scoring as many goals as we as Mamelodi Sundowns could have, but on the other side we’re saying ‘no, no, let’s not turn our league into a banana league’.”
