Williams signed a five-year deal with the Brazilians, and he faces stiff competition from Denis Onyango, Kennedy Mweene and Reyaad Pieterse.

Now, Mngqithi said there is no pressure on them as the Sundowns technical team to play Williams, saying the 30-year-old must be prepared to compete.

Mngqithi said Williams made the decision to join Sundowns because they wanted him, adding that they do not kill the careers of players at Chloorkop.

He admitted that some players succeed while others don’t, but he hopes Williams succeeds at Sundowns because they believe in him as a goalkeeper.

NEW MAMELODI SUNDOWNS GOALKEEPER RONWEN WILLIAMS WARNED

“Nothing puts us under pressure [to play Williams] to be honest, because we’ve got number-ones there – Kennedy was number-one for Zambia, with Denis [also a number-one],” said Mngqithi as per SABC Sport.

“Ronwen is number-one for South Africa, or was number-one – we don’t know if he’s still going to continue because Bafana Bafana is changing week in and week out.

“So, we must appreciate the competition that exists among these goalkeepers, because all of them are top internationals. Don’t forget Reyaad Pieterse also had a very good season last season.”

“For Ronwen, he made a decision to join us because we wanted him but he knew very well he’s coming into a team where competition is very rife. Nobody must come to a club and say, ‘They killed my career,’ what-what,” continued Mngqithi.

“Nobody is killing anyone’s career here. People must come and compete, some succeed, others don’t, and we hope he succeeds because we love him, we believe in him, he’s a very good goalkeeper.”
