“We have Mudau who is still struggling a little bit and we have to see what his state is. He is probably out of this match. He is not ready. We still have the long-term injury of Lebo and that’s a massive blow, but we have enough within the squad to be able to deal with that,” Mokwena told reporters on Thursday.

Mokwena was more upbeat on the chances of Themba Zwane and Mosa Lebusa featuring in some capacity against Kaizer Chiefs.

Zwane and Lebusa will undergo late fitness tests this weekend which will determine their involvement.

“Themba Zwane still needs to pass a fitness test. Mosa Lebusa still needs to pass a fitness test and complete a full training session. A lot of praise has to go to our medical department, the way they have dealt with the players,” Mokwena said.

Mamelodi Sundowns are one of seven teams with four points after two rounds of Premiership action and face a Kaizer Chiefs team with the same haul.

Sundowns should be considered the favourites on the balance of their form but Kaizer Chiefs have already shown they can force a stalemate over 90 minutes against the Premiership champions.
