Just days after confirming the arrival of the well-traveled Michael Loftman as a specialist ‘set-piece’ coach.

According to reports, PSL head of competitions Thami Khuzwayo will join Mamelodi Sundowns as an ‘assistant team manager or assistant team liaison manager’.

Khuzwayo is expected to act as a deputy to both Kagiso Marumo and Peter Ndlovu at the Brazilians.

“Sundowns look set to make a surprise appointment with a new addition to their already bloated technical team.” a FarPost report read.

“Thami Khuzwayo is set to join Mamelodi Sundowns in what could be an assistant team manager or assistant team liaison manager role.

“Thami is joining Sundowns as an assistant manager. He’ll assist Peter [team manager] and Kagiso [the team liaison manager].” a source told the publication.

Loftman joins the Brazilians

“Mamelodi Sundowns has bolstered its Technical Team and football-department with the appointment of Michael Loftman as Set Play Coach.” a club statement read.

“The appointment was made in an effort to raise the bar including a specialist to the Technical Team. All elite sport is about gaining small margins.

“Replays and restarts are a significant part of modern-day football and are even more crucial when playing in the CAF Champions League.

“Loftman has held various coaching roles as head coach and development coach. He holds a UEFA A license from the English FA and a Sports Science & Coaching Masters Degree from Brunel University.

“In his role, the experienced coach and performance data analyst will work on the pitch for Mamelodi Sundowns. And also compile analytic data to provide information to improve an important part of the game.”
