Rasetlho refuted claims that Maselesele was beaten to death by the community – as well as the fact that he was killed over electrical cable theft claims.

Reports of Maselesele’s death emerged last Friday evening, but even though it was confirmed by his former team-mate and friend Isaac Mabotsa.

It would then emerge through numerous media reports on Saturday morning that Maselesele had allegedly been brutally murdered by the community.

It was said that they allowed Pitbulls to maul him, before being stoned and beaten to death by a mob from the community.

This was all thought to be because of his alleged involvement in cable theft in the area.

Now Rasetlho has come out to clear the air on such claims while speaking to Thomas Mlambo on his Ultimate Sports Show. He confirmed that the initial reports doing the rounds were inaccurate.

“As a family, we are disputing that, as far as we know, as far as the family’s position, he (Maselesele) was killed and even today as we speak, there is no evidence of the things you are talking about, where he was killed because of cables or whatever. Let somebody bring them forth, there is no such a thing, there is no evidence,” said Rasetlho

Rasetlho continued by stating that the electrical cable theft story was made up by Maselesele’s murderers to try save face.

“Those people that killed him were trying to cover up, but fortunately there were neighbours who alerted the police and that is how they were apprehended because they were immediately apprehended at the scene of the crime.

“Because when they were caught by the police they said he (Maselesele) was stealing the cables and unfortunately this is what the media got what got from the police somehow, but the police got it wrong. Remember, when the police find an unknown person, they will do whatever statement until it’s rectified by the family or by further evidence,” Rasetlho continued.

Rasetlho also confirmed the gruesome details of Maselesele’s death, adding that it was not the community, but rather a group of thugs that killed former Kaizer Chiefs player.

“What we know is it is not the community, the community is not four people. People that killed him were four and apparently these four left and two from the four came back with a dog, a vicious dog, so they should come and finish him off. It was thugs, not the community.”
