Kaizer Chiefs are believed to be ready to appoint Nasreddine Nabi as their new head coach, in the coming days.

Although the deal has not been announced as of yet, it is believed all is agreed between Chiefs and Nabi.

It’s thought that the only thing in the way of a formal announcement by Chiefs, is the Throne Cup semifinal. Nabi’s AS FAR side are set to take on Mahgreb Fes on the 23rd of June. This is largely believed to be his last game in charge of the former Moroccan champions. He is then expected to arrive at Naturena after that and hit the ground running.

Chiefs expected to announce Nabi deal

Earlier in the day, this publication reported that Chiefs had pressed ahead with one of his requests. That being securing an assistant coach of his choice. It is believed Amakhosi duly obliged and are close to announcing the appointment of Fernando Da Cruz. The Frenchman is expected to arrive at Naturena as early as this week, to begin laying the groundwork for Nabi’s arrival.

But now according to Soccer-Laduma citing Moroccan reports, AS FAR are hopeful of a potential Nabi-Chiefs U-turn.

“It seems the club (AS FAR) believes that the Tunisian (Nabi) tactician can be the man to take them forward into the latter stages of the competition. The same report claims that the chiefs at FAR and Nabi will convene for a meeting after their Moroccan Throne Cup semi-final against Maghreb Fes on Sunday, with it said it is then that they will try to convince him to stay on as they look to navigate the way forward for the team. It has been rumoured that FAR and Chiefs have already agreed on a compensation package for the north African mentor, so it seems it will be up to him as to whether or not he decides to stay in Rabat or leave for Johannesburg.” Wrote the publication.

Could he still stay at AS FAR?

With Da Cruz arriving at Chiefs, it seems the deal already too far ahead for Nabi to change his mind. It is also reported that an agreement was reached already with AS FAR for the early release.
