Mamelodi Sundowns have confirmed the signing of Lesedi Kapinga on a five-year contract.

The 25-year-old attacker joins the Tshwane outfit a week after parting ways with Black Leopards. Kapinga spent the previous two seasons out in Thohoyandou where his skillful nature caught the attention of many of the league’s top clubs. He was one of Leopards’ shining lights scoring five goals and earning a further five assists this season.

Sundowns have confirmed the arrival of the diminutive attacker at their training camp in Rustenburg. Pitso Mosimane’s men are currently regaining their fitness in the North West ahead of the potential return of PSL action.

Kapinga signs for Masandawana

“Lesedi Kapinga has joined the rest of the Mamelodi Sundowns team in camp (based in Rustenburg) after parting ways with Black Leopards earlier this week.” an official club statement read.

“The new signee has been welcomed by everyone in camp, digitally, as he is currently in isolation as part of the Covid-19 protocols and will interact with the rest of the squad in person once his isolation period is completed.”

Pitso looking to future

Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Pitso Mosimane has revealed the determining factors behind the acquisition of Kapinga at Chloorkop.

“Lesedi is a good young prospect and we are looking at getting as many young players as we can. He fits the programme with his age and the style of play. He is the type of player who likes combination play and loves one on one and taking defenders on. He scores goals also and I wish him all the best”.

Kapinga will not feature for Sundowns should the season resume due to the registration period being closed. He’ll join fellow new signing George Maluleka on the sidelines until the end of the season.
