From Soweto to Tshwane and all the way down to Cape Town, Dean Boyle ranks the five DStv Premiership teams with the largest Twitter, Facebook and Instagram following.

1. Kaizer Chiefs – 5.8 million

Amakhosi fans lead the way with the largest following on social media in the Premier Soccer League.

The Phefeni Glamour Boys have 3.2 million followers on their official Facebook page and a further 2 million supporters on Twitter. On Instagram they have 602 000 followers.

2. Orlando Pirates – 4.3 million

This rich rivalry off the field of play continues as Buccaneers fans take second spot.

“The Ghost” amount to 2.3 million followers on Facebook, 1.6 million on Twitter and are just shy of 400 000 on Instagram.

3. Mamelodi Sundowns – 1.98 million

The Brazilians have become a force to be reckoned with in the modern PSL era, winning 5 of the last 7 league titles. In total they are just short of the 2 million supporters mark on social media and boast one of the fastest growing fanbases.

Sundowns have 928 000 followers on Facebook, 795 000 on Twitter and just over a quarter of a million on Instagram.

4. SuperSport United – 551 000

Matsatsantsa fans are known as The Trendsetters and they certainly have the numbers on social media to do just that.

SuperSport United have 134 000 followers on Facebook, almost 300 000 on Twitter and 122 000 on Instagram.

5. Cape Town City – 546 000

The Citizens’ Blue and Gold Army are on this rise and narrowly trail SuperSport United’s following on social media by just 5 000.

They have 194 000 supporters on Facebook, 218 000 on Twitter and 134 000 on Instagram.
