With preparations for the 2022/23 season already in full swing, Chiefs have undergone a significant squad restructuring under head coach Arthur Zwane. The new season is set to start on Saturday, 6 August with the MTN8, while the DStv Premiership is set to kick off off on Friday, 12 August.

REPORT: HOW CHIEFS COULD HAVE CASHED IN ON R13M FOR NURKOVIC

Many believe this has been Chiefs’ best ‘recruitment drive’ for quite some time, and there are talks that there could still be one or two more signings secured by Amakhosi before next season.

Interestingly, it’s been widely suggested that the Soweto giants are still actively pursuing three attacking options, and that one potential new signing could even be unveiled in the coming days.

In some notable reports, transfer talk suggested Chiefs had been offered an opportunity to secure the services Al Ahly’s Luis Miquissone, who has been placed on the transfer list of the Egypt club.

The Mozambican attacking midfielder is no stranger to South Africa, and notably had a stint with Sundowns before joining Simba SC in Tanzania, and then eventually heading to Al Ahly under Pitso Mosimane. Apparently, though, he may not be in the plans of new coach Ricardo Soares, and it will be interesting to see whether Chiefs might now pounce to sign him.

However, the player’s representative Thato Matuka has firmly denied there’s been any contact from Amakhosi, as reported by iDiski Times.

“The club [Kaizer Chiefs] have not communicated with me, I have not offered him to them either, it’s a no,” Matuka confirmed iDiski Times.

“Simba have not contacted me either and Yanga it’s a no as well, we’ve not heard anything but if he leaves Al Ahly, the aim, if he leaves, is to take him North. But nobody has approached me from any of those three clubs.”

Meanwhile, also according to iDiski Times, Chiefs could still possibly swoop in for former Stellenbosch FC striker Fuad Johnson after he was surprisingly released by the club.

The 19-year-old went on trial at Belgian clubs Antwerp and Westerlo, but ultimately did not fit into their planning around recruiting a player ready for first-team football. However, he could now apparently be picked up by Chiefs to feature in the Diski Challenge squad for next season.

A quality number nine signing is a priority for Amakhosi at this stage, so it will certainly be worthwhile to watch this space.
