Sought-after striker Khanyisa Mayo recently confirmed that although there was once interest from Chiefs, he is committed to Cape Town City.

The talented forward is one player who was regularly linked with the Soweto giants, particularly during the January transfer window. Although the deal ultimately fell flat, there was speculation that Chiefs could potentially reignite negotiations to try and lure the talented attacker to Naturena for next season.

However, as reported by SABC Sport earlier this month, Cape Town City acted quickly to extend the playmaker’s contract to June 2028. The club ultimately had no interest in losing the services of such a talented player, with the Cape club first exercising the option in his contract before tabling a blockbuster new offer.

Interestingly, though, Mayo’s father has suggested a move to Naturena could have been a good one for him.

“Unfortunately he has already signed an extension with Cape Town City,” Mayo told Scrolla.Africa.

“Yes, obviously, I would encourage him to go and play for Kaizer Chiefs because as we speak at the moment, Chiefs do not have a striker. He can easily fit in at Chiefs.”

MAYO HAS OPENED UP ABOUT INTEREST FROM CHIEFS

“Growing up, it’s every player’s dream to play for a big team like Chiefs,” Mayo said on Radio 2000.

“There was interest [from Chiefs] in January, but Cape Town City was not willing to sell. But I’ve now committed to City until 2028. I’m happy here, and we want to challenge the big clubs and give it a go.”
