Zondo was appointed as assistant manager to Dan Malesela who took over at the helm at the beginning of the season from John Maduka who jumped ship to fellow KwaZulu-Natal outfit Maritzburg United.
Malesela has subsequently left the club and returned to Marumo Gallants.

This opened up space for Khabo Zondo to take up the head coach duties and the club have not done badly since his promotion to the top job.
Royal AM 4th in the latest DStv Premiership log
Royal AM currently occupy fourth position in the standings after a strong start to the season.

However, according to online source Unplayable, Zondo is not in camp with the team in Johannesburg as they prepare for Tuesday, 4 October’s match against SuperSport United.
“The guys in camp say he was fired,” a source commented.

Royal AM will take on SuperSport United at the Lucas Moripe Stadium on Tuesday at 19:30.
