Kaizer Chiefs rope in emergency defensive cover ahead of derby?

Kaizer Chiefs head coach Arthur Zwane has roped an academy star into his first team training sessions ahead of this weekend’s Soweto derby.
The Glamour Boys head into this weekend’s titanic battle against Orlando Pirates without a host of key players.

Defensively, the Amakhosi are in tatters! Dillon Solomons, Reeve Frosler and Eric Mathoho are all ruled out of the clash.
Adding to Zwane’s woes, Edmilson Dove is doubtful and Siyabonga Ngezana also picked up a knock in their previous match against Golden Arrows.
Zwane has since taken a drastic decision by calling 18-year-old Diski Challenge central defender Siyabonga Gumede up to his first team training sessions.

The youngster could make his debut in this weekend’s clash against Orlando Pirates if Edmilson Dove and Siyabonga Ngezana fail to recover from illness and injury in time.
Gumede was voted as both Kaizer Chiefs reserve side’s Player’s Player of the Season and Defender of the The Season last season.

“Siyabonga Gumede has now joined Zwane’s side in their training sessions as the 18-year-old centre-back fills the void left by Mathoho, who has struggled with injuries in the current campaign.” – Goal reported regarding the Kaizer Chiefs youngster.
“Gumede, who was named 2021-22 Chiefs reserve team Defender of the Season, was spotted training with the club’s first team on Wednesday.”
