Kaizer Chiefs will include a quartet of new young players in their squad for the upcoming campaign. Does one of them solve a massive problem position?

Bontle Molefe has been impressing the new staff

New goalkeeping coach Ilyes Mzoughi has been taking the ‘stoppers through their place in Turkey. One of those is 21-year-old Bontle Molefe, a player on the fringes of the first team for some time. A wrist injury and subsequent surgery derailed long portions of 2023 but he’s fit and firing again. Molefe might be a seriously timely solution to a pressing problem for the Glamour Boys. 2024 feels like his time to shine after enough months out of the limelight.

Nwabali is too expensive, is Magoola a target?

Chiefs were recently quoted a staggering R30 million price if they wanted to sign Chippa and Nigeria star Stanley Nwabali. It’s also been rumoured that Richards Bay’s Salim Magoola was a cheaper alternative, but that talk has also cooled.

Khune is surely leaving

Jessica Motaung will make a definitive statement on the future of Itumeleng Khune soon. It’s impossible to see a scenario where he stays on as a member of the playing personnel, so Chiefs will need to reinforce that department. However, whether they dip into the market for a pricy option or settle on the internal solution that is Bontle Molefe remains to be seen. Regardless, it’s the end of an era for a bona fide club legend.

Freeing up funds?

The board will be eager to get Khune’s enormous wages off their balance sheet after sending Keagan Dolly (previously the league’s most handsomely paid performer) packing. Everyone knows that strikers and goal-scorers are the most expensive options on the market and that’s exactly what Chiefs need to add to their arsenal this season. Sellers will know this and it’ll push the prices up for rumoured targets Elias Mokwana, Iqraam Rayners and Fiston Mayele.

Chiefs fans, would you be happy with Bvuma, Petersen and Molefe as the club’s three ‘keepers for next season? Or do they need to splash some cash?
