Kaizer Chiefs youngster set for senior team promotion?

Kaizer Chiefs DStv Diski Challenge star Mduduzi Shabalala could be set for a promotion to the senior side if the latest reports are to be believed.

Shabalala has caught the eye from Chiefs DDC side, with his goals and general performances giving supporters something to smile about. 

Shabalala has impressed in the DDC thus far

Those good performances for the Chiefs DDC side then swiftly saw the player voted into DStv Compact Cup, where he won the competition with the Warriors. Shabalala was also able to grab an assist in an impressive cameo in the mini tournament. That only served to increase the players profile and Chiefs fans began calling hoping that he would make it into senior squad upon resumption of football.

However, Shabalala has not featured so far in any of the two games that the Chiefs senior side has played in both the Nedbank Cup and DStv Premiership. In both games, Amakhosi drew a blank, losing 1-0 to TS Galaxy and getting knocked out of potentially their only chance of silverware this season. They then played to a dull 0-0 draw away to Cape Town City in midweek, with the youngster not featuring there either. 

Senior side promotion?

Now according to Soccer-Laduma insiders, there has been a positive recommendation given by Chiefs DDC coach Vela Khumalo on Shabalala, to the senior team coaches, which could see the player getting himself into the senior team’s set up sooner rather than later.

“Insiders at the club have informed the Siya crew that Kaizer Chiefs youngster Mduduzi Shabalala could become a permanent fixture in the club’s first team after receiving backing from his coach. Now, the latest coming out of Naturena is that Shabalala could be roped into the club’s first team on a more permanent basis. According to insiders, coach Vela Khumalo feels that the young striker is ready for the step-up, having proved himself with the reserve team.” Wrote the publication.

If Shabalala does indeed find himself promoted, it would be interesting to see if he would get any game time. Chiefs have a lot attacking quality this season, and the young forward might still be forced to bide his time, regardless.
