Early PSL frontrunners Kaizer Chiefs will be put to the test when they host Polokwane City the Soccer City Stadium on Saturday evening.

Amakhosi head into this game as favourites, but Rise and Shine have shown their potential to spring a surprise. They defied expectations to finish fifth last season and have already shocked Cape Town City 2-0 at Newlands in the 2019/20 MTN8.

Chiefs themselves are coming off the back of a 2-1 win over Benni McCarthy’s men in Cape Town. Having finished ninth in the league last season, they have utilised the spare time afforded to them by a lack of MTN8 and continental football.

In addition, new signings Samir Nurković and Kearyn Baccus are settling in nicely while Lebogang Manyama and Erick Mathoho have recovered their best form.

“I don’t worry much about how I play,” Manyama was quoted as saying by IOL.

“The most important thing at this point in time is to put Kaizer Chiefs back to where it was, rather than putting myself back to where I was.

“The guys and club have been supportive through the trying times, but I don’t worry much about individual performances.”

However, largely thanks to Manyama’s form, Chiefs can head into this game feeling relatively confident. More good news is that Khama Billiat is fit after he picked up an injury against Cape Town City.

Kick-off time and prediction

Prediction: Kaizer Chiefs have come out all guns blazing this season and will be a difficult outfit to stop on home soil. Polokwane City, however, are punching above their weight once more despite a turbulent off-season.

Amakhosi are nevertheless tipped to edge this one with the in-form Samir Nurković likely to cause problems for the Rise and Shine defence.
