Keagan Dolly scored twice for Amakhosi on either side of the half while Linda Mntambo scored the consolation goal for the Buccaneers.

Chiefs went into this encounter on the back of a 1-0 loss to Stellenbosch while Pirates won their previous match against Sekhukhune United.

This encounter also marked Stuart Baxter’s 100th as head coach of Amakhosi over two spells.

It was a frantic start to the first half with Chiefs winning a corner while Pirates had their attempt through Linda Mntambo sail over the crossbar after five minutes.

Khama Billiat won a free-kick in a promising area outside the box but he blasted the resulting free-kick over the crossbar.

Deon Hotto found Fortune Makaringe inside the Chiefs after 15 minutes, and with an attempted lob, the Pirates midfielder’s effort bounced off the crossbar.

A penalty appeal was then turned down for Chiefs as Njabulo Ngcobo’s attempted shot from inside the box hit Thulani Hlatshwayo in the hand after 30 minutes.

A cross was played into the Chiefs box from the right hand side, and it found Makaringe who headed inches wide of Daniel Akpeyi’s goal.

Pirates came back from the break guns blazing as Kwame Peprah was played through on the left-hand side but he shot across the face of goal.

Hlatshwayo then made a hospital pass trying to find Olisa Ndah but the ball found Billiat who stormed into the Pirates box before laying the ball to Dolly.

Dolly then made no mistake as he placed the ball around Siyabonga Mpontshane for Amakhosi’s opening goal after 49 minutes.

Chiefs introduced Anthony Agay for Cole Alexander who had a rather quiet game in the middle of the park to try and shut the back door.

Pirates lacked that sense of urgency, especially in the final third as fatigue appears to be creeping in with less than 20 minutes to play.

Billiat made a run behind Ndah, and he stormed into the Pirates box but with only Mpontshane to beat, the attacker’s attempted dink was saved before Hlatshwayo cleared the ball off the line.

Pirates were finally rewarded as Mntambo capitalized on a goalkeeping error by Dani Akpeyi to make it 1-1 with three minutes to go.

Ndah would gift Chiefs all the points as fouled Billiat inside the box deep into stoppage time.

Dolly then stepped up and sent Mpontshane the wrong way to make it 2-1 for his second of the game on his Soweto Derby debut.

As a result, Chiefs moved up to fifth on the DStv Premiership log with 15 points from 10 points while Pirates dropped to seventh on the log.
