Latest INJURY updates

Kaizer Chiefs head into today’s fixture without a number of their star players. Lebogang Manyama who recently returned back from injury finds himself once again in the Amakhosi physio room.

Striking duo of Samir Nurkovic and Leonardo Castro are also both out injured while Siyabonga Ngezana and Dumisani Zuma remain on the sidelines. Zuma has returned to training but Stuart Baxter confirmed he’s still unavailable for selection at Kaizer Chiefs.

Chippa United welcome Riaan Hanamub and Ismail Watenga back from international duty this afternoon. Neither team has any players suspended for this afternoon’s clash.

Baxter opens up on transfer plans

“I think we’ve got to be careful as a football club to not solve problems with a cheque book. I think a signing is very possible in January but it must be part of a strategy. It can’t be just because the supporters expect us to make a signing or maybe, we think we can plug a hole by making a signing.” Kaizer Chiefs head coach Stuart Baxter said.

“We need to have a strategy and the signing needs to be part of that strategy. With the injuries we’ve incurred, we’ve got Samir Nurkovic and Leonardo Castro who, both of them foreign players, both expected to be a source of goals for us, and yet neither are anywhere near the field.

“So, you’d think that, maybe, if Kaizer Chiefs can make a signing to strengthen the striking department it would be useful, and you’d be right in that assumption. But we’ve got to think, if we do our work on the training, how much can we compensate there?

“We raise the level of the players we have and then we make that marquee signing to enhance everything. You’ve got to be careful not to believe that Kaizer Chiefs can just buy our way out of trouble because you can’t.”
