Chiefs linked with SENSELESS target

Kaizer Chiefs’ major squad rebuild has seen the Soweto giants linked with a long list of targets, but some, like Junior Mendieta, lack sense.

Nearly every single Kaizer Chiefs supporter is well aware of the links with Junior Mendieta from Stellenbosch FC, but does it make sense? Not really.

KAIZER CHIEFS LINKED WITH JUNIOR MENDIETA

As widely reported across local football media, the 29-year-old Argentine is hotly linked with a move to Naturena to become a Glamour Boy next season.

Looking at the player’s profile, Chiefs’ objectives, and playing style, the rumoured move does not really make sense. One of the major areas coach Arthur Zwane revealed he was focusing on, in terms of new recruits, was technical skills and speed; Mendieta is not the strongest in these areas.

The Argentine’s unqiue qualities are physical power, workrate, and grit. These qualities are nothing to smirk at, but do they fit the Chiefs game model? Not really.

SQUAD BALANCE

Looking at the Amakhosi‘s squad, the central attacking midfield/number 10 role is rather overpacked. Coach Zwane has six options: Mduduzi Shabalala, Nkosingiphile Ngcobo, Khama Billiat, Kamohelo Mahlatsi, Keagan Dolly, and George Matlou.

Does bringing Mendieta make sense? No.

The positions Amakhosi should be focused on improving are central midfield and the wide areas in attack.
