Kaizer Chiefs | Was money the reason Cele didn’t move to Naturena? No!

South Africa junior international Thabo Cele has revealed that his reported high salary demands had nothing to do with his failed move to Kaizer Chiefs.

South Africa junior international Thabo Cele has revealed that his reported high salary demands had nothing to do with his failed move to Kaizer Chiefs.

Soon after his failed trial at Radomiak Radom, Cele was reported to have asked for a high salary, and this was believed to be the reason Chiefs pulled out of the deal.

However, in his own words, Cele said this wasn’t the case before revealing he doesn’t know what really happened to the possible deal.

As previously reported, Stuart Baxter reportedly wanted the 24-year-old midfielder at Chiefs but the management was divided on the idea of signing him.

“Money was not the reason the deal to Chiefs fell through,” Cele told SAFM.

“Like I said, the negotiations were very smooth with Chiefs, everything was going well. I really don’t know what happened,” he said.

Cele further said joining Chiefs wouldn’t have been a step backwards in his career as many would have seen it.

In fact, he saw it as an opportunity to ply his trade in South Africa and use the experience of playing for Chiefs as a stepping stone for his return to Europe.

“Some people would have seen it a step back coming back home but Kaizer Chiefs is big club, and I viewed it as a great opportunity to play in South Africa, and also use it as an opportunity to go back to Europe,” added Cele.

Cele has since signed a three-year deal with Radomiak whom he had to re-negotiate in order to be offered the deal.
