Kaizer Chiefs transfer news: Castro caught between a rock & a hard place?

Kaizer Chiefs striker Leonardo Castro is reportedly caught between a rock and a hard place as he is into the final months of his contract.

Kaizer Chiefs striker Leonardo Castro is reportedly caught between a rock and a hard place as he is into the final months of his contract.

Castro’s contract with Amakhosi expires in June, but the club revealed in January that it was in the process of reviewing and finalising contracts of their senior players.

And at this stage, it is unclear if Castro is among those whose contracts will be renewed by Chiefs before the end of the season.

CASTRO FACE CONUNDRUM OVER FUTURE IF CHIEFS DECIDE TO LET HIM GO

Now, according to KickOff, Castro has options abroad, especially in the South America IF Chiefs decide against renewing his contract.

However, he should brace himself for a huge salary cut if he is to return to his country of birth Colombia or even to countries he previously plied his trade in (Bolivia and Peru).

The publication reports that Castro is earning around R7 million per season at Chiefs; the money he may NOT get if he goes on to ply his trade in South America.

At 32, Castro’s chances of earning that much at a different club in South Africa are very slim, especially because Chiefs are considered the best paying club in the PSL.

CASTRO’S RECORD AT CHIEFS COMPARED TO THAT AT MAMELODI SUNDOWNS?

Castro hasn’t had the same impact at Chiefs compared to what he did at Sundowns but his goal-per-match ratio is more or less the same.

At Sundowns, Castro scored 16 goals in 62 competitive matches with eight assists to his name.

Castro’s record at Chiefs stands at 113 official games, 29 goals and nine assists – but will that be enough to save him? Only time will tell!
