Kaizer Chiefs striker Ashley du Preez has named the ONE player he grew up looking up to at the club following his move to Naturena.

Speaking to FARPost, Du Preez confessed that he grew up supporting Chiefs, adding that the goal he recently scored for Stellenbosch against them remains special.

Nonetheless, Du Preez said he had to do what he was supposed to as Stellenbosch also needed to win the match against his childhood club.

DU PREEZ GREW UP SUPPORTING KAIZER CHIEFS

“I had to go against Kaizer Chiefs, the goal I scored against them; that goal won us the match, and it was the most memorable moment for me,” said Du Preez.

“Since I was a little boy, I supported Chiefs. My dream was to play for them one day.”

DU PREEZ ALWAYS WANTED TO SCORE AGAINST KHUNE

Furthermore, Du Preez said as a young professional, his dream was to score against Itumeleng Khune, and he’s happy he fulfilled that in the DStv Compact Cup.

And that’s because the 24-year-old attacker regards the Chiefs legend as the best, number one goalkeeper in the country.

“When I started to play for Stellenbosch, I dreamt of beating Khune. I did so in the Coastal Cup [DStv Compact Cup]; it was a great achievement to beat him, the best number one goalkeeper,” he said.

DU PREEZ NAMES PARKER AS HIS FAVOURITE CHIEFS PLAYER

Growing up, Du Preez looked up to another Chiefs legend in Bernard Parker whom he said was his favourite player.

What the speedy striker liked and still does about Parker is the fact that he can score goals and his adminiration for him is purely based on him as a player.

“Growing up, Bernard Parker was my favourite player at Chiefs. He was scoring goals; even now, he can score goals; he was that player I looked up to,” continued Du Preez.

“I’ve never met him outside football. So, my love for him is purely based on him as a footballer.”
