Kaizer Chiefs are reportedly tracking an experienced defender who is out of contract at the end of the season.

AmaZulu defender Thembela Sikhakhane is drawing interest from the Glamour Boys.

Kaizer Chiefs want Amazulu defender

Sikhakhane is said to be open to staying in Durban should he be offered a new deal.

While Kaizer Chiefs could offer Sikhakhane a pre-contract, their experiences with Amazulu and Siyethembe Sithebe might put them off that path.

The player has recently changed representation, and this could open the door for Kaizer Chiefs to turn his head.

“He left the company that managed him before and is now managed by his brother and he let the club know of this,” a source told the Citizen.

“He did this to avoid any misunderstanding or miscommunication where the club could end up approaching his old manager.

“Now it has been weeks since he gave them the numbers but no communication has been made.”

Still well within his prime as a defender Sikhakhane has little anxiety about his future.

Not only is Sandton calling but a stay in Durban could be a possibility with Royal AM also interested.

“Chiefs and Royal AM are the two teams we know are watching the situation with a keen eye right now,” the source adds.

“And they will be able to make their interest public in January, when he is in the last six months of his contract at Usuthu.”

Is Sikhakhane set to go back to Gauteng again?

Hailing from the heart of the Zulu kingdom in Ulundi, Sikhakhane’s career has seen him shuttle between KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng.

On the books of Orlando Pirates for some time, he wouldn’t establish himself at Mayfair.

However, he has come into his own at Amazulu and the attention of Kaizer Chiefs shows just how far he has come.
