According to a source known to The South African, Amakhosi are working around the clock to find Thabo Mokoena a team at the start of 2023.

Mokoena has only been training with the Chiefs first team without featuring in competitive matches despite being registered with the PSL.

The lanky centre-back was promoted from the Chiefs DStv Diski Challenge team at the start of last season after turning 21.

And that’s because he could no longer play in the reserve league due to his age, and at the same time, competition for places in the Chiefs first team was stiff.

It hasn’t been any different this season with all the number of experienced centre-backs such as Zitha Kwinika and Edmilson Dove that Chiefs recently signed.

Mokoena did benefit last season as he was sent out on loan to Pretoria Callies who campaign in the now Motsepe Foundation Championship.

However, the deal didn’t last for a season as Callies sent him back to Chiefs in Janaury 2022 after being deemed surplus to requirements at the Tshwane-based side.

Now, this website’s sports desk understands that Chiefs don’t want to let Mokoena’s talent go to waste by just letting him without giving him a chance hence they’re looking to loan him out yet again.

KAIZER CHIEFS STARLET SET FOR LOAN MOVE IN JANUARY

“The club is working on securing a January loan move for Thabo. He’s a talented boy but he’s not ready to come in now,” the source told The South African.

“He’s only 22, and he should be playing regularly for him to get the required experience, and Chiefs want to help him achieve that and return home as a better player.”

“By the way, he was supposed to go out on loan before the previous transfer window closed but that didn’t happen,” concluded the source.
