Kaizer Chiefs targeting surprise AmaZulu midfielder

An interesting report has emerged to suggest Kaizer Chiefs have enquired about a talented young midfielder from AmaZulu.

As Chiefs begin to plot and plan for the next transfer window, Amakhosi fans will be interested to see that FARPost reports that 23-year-old midfielder Siphesihle Maduna is on the club’s radar.

Maduna, who played youth football with Lamontville Golden Arrows between 2012 and 2014, before joining AmaZulu’s youth team in 2016, has quickly become a key member of the senior team for the KZN side.

Although injuries have blighted his recent career progress, there is no doubting the talents of Maduna, who AmaZulu president Sandile Zungu previously acknowledged had been at the centre of enquiries.

“Kaizer Chiefs did talk to us some time ago. It’s just one of the parties that contacted us about Maduna,” Zungu said in a telephonic interview with FARPost. “He’s our player for quite some time. He signed a new contract two seasons ago. I hear people saying he’s going end of this season. He’s got another season with us.”

With this in mind, it will be interesting to see whether AmaZulu would entertain an offer, but this is certainly a story that’s worth keeping track of ahead of the next transfer window.

When are Chiefs next in action?

This past weekend Chiefs claimed a deserved win over Maritzburg United, with their third successive league victory moving them up to fourth on the DStv Premiership log, level on 37 points with third-placed Orlando Pirates and only trailing marginally on goal difference.

Satisfied with another three points, Amakhosi coach Arthur Zwane said afterwards: “We got two early goals from great movement and after we got the second goal, we thought the game was going to be easy but I warned the players that these guys are going to put up a great fight because they are in a position where they want survival.

“I think, in the second half they took their foot off the pedal and were a bit more cautious, which allowed us to take control of the game and when we made our counter attacks at the right time, we looked like we could score at any given moment.”

When Chiefs return to action, they will not only set sights on a top two finish in the DStv Premiership, but the club will also be targeting a season-defining trophy in the Nedbank Cup.

A look at Amakhosi’s remaining matches will give their fans serious hope that they could finish the league season on a positive note – and perhaps in the Top 3.

The Glamour Boys will only face three other teams in the current top half of the latest standings, as well as – incredibly – three of the bottom four at present!
