Cape Town City midfielder Thabo Nodada has signed a new deal that will see him stay in the Mother City until 2024, the club announced on Monday morning.

Nodada’s initial contract was set to expire in June 2022 but the club felt his services were needed beyond that period.

The Citizens took to their social media platforms to announce the new deal.

“The club is delighted to have signed a new contract with Thabo Nodada. Our vice-captain extends his stay until June 2024! An integral figure in the City midfield,” said the club in a brief statement.

The decision to offer Nodada a new contract is seen as an attempt to thwart any interest from the big Gauteng clubs, including both Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates.

In January 2020, City’s chairman John Comitis confirmed that Amakhosi wanted to sign the Ixopo-born attacking midfielder.

However, the Mother City-based outfit was reluctant to sell, and Nodada was happy to stay and continue making waves for City.

The 25-year-old Bafana international has been with the Citizens since its formation in 2016.

Prior to that, Nodada was at Mpumalanga Black Aces; the club Comitis bought before changing its name to Cape Town City.
