Kaizer Chiefs target shock veteran free agent! 

It is no secret that Kaizer Chiefs are in the market trying to beef up all areas of their attack ahead of next season, after a disappointing 2022/23 campaign.

Last season, Chiefs turned to the likes of Ashley du Preez, Caleb Bimenyimana as well as Christian Saile with none of the above proving a consistent solution.

So far, the recruitment drive at the club has already started, with the club already announcing Thathoyane Dithlokwe from SuperSport United as a new signing on a pre-contract. They are also believed to have clinched the signature of TS Galaxy captain Given Msimango on what is believed to be a three-year deal. Those, however, are two defensive signings with Chiefs only attacking signing so far, thought to be that of Mduduzi Mdantsane from Cape Town City.

But perhaps, it could be that playmaker position that could help solve the problems in front of goal for Chiefs with Mdantsane just the first piece of the puzzle. Just today, links have emerged for another number 10 in Maritzburg United star Rowan Human. Previously, it was the name of arguably the best playmaker in the league, Junior Mendieta of Stellenbosch FC that was thought to be of interest to Amakhosi.

Phalane of interest to Chiefs

This morning though, a shock option in that position has also since emerged. That is in the form of Lantshene Phalane. Phalane has only recently parted ways with Royal AM and would be available to Chiefs on a free transfer should the club want to sign him, as per reports for Soccer-Laduma.

“Lantshene Phalane is one of the players that have been earmarked for a possible move to Chiefs for next season. The club’s head coach Arthur Zwane, is a big admirer of the player and a move would depend on whether Zwane is there or not next season, as well the parties being able to agree terms”. Said a source to the same publication.

It would certainly be a strange move if Phalane was to indeed move to Chiefs, as he is currently 33-years old. Zwane and the Amakhosi hierarchy have made it known that they want to sign younger players at the club.
