Kaizer Chiefs starlet Mfundo Vilakazi has been lauded by Amakhosi reserve coach Vela Khumalo.

Vilakazi rose to the occasion for the Amakhosi reserve side this weekend during their 2-1 victory over TS Galaxy in the DStv Diski Challenge.

The 15-year-old grabbed a late winning goal for his and Vela Khumalo has since showered the rising star with praise!

The youth coach also admitted that the club are handling Vilakazi with great caution, considering the fact that he’s still a schoolboy with the world of expectation on his shoulders!

Kaizer Chiefs starlet Mfundo Vilakazi lauded by coach!

“We had six key players missing. We gave other lads time to come in and they won the game. I am also happy with the performance. The boys wanted to emulate the first team’s result from Saturday,” Vela Khumalo said as quoted by Citizen.

“Look at Mfundo Vilakazi, he’s 15 years old, and he creates a goal out of nothing. He took on players, dribbled past them and he gave us what we wanted, which was a Kaizer Chiefs win.

“There were great moments in this game. Look at Donay coming in for the first time and scoring. Bongho Lawana also played well at the back, it is a headache for me because you have players who put up their hands and did well. Who do you leave out for the Royal AM game?

“We need to manage Vilakazi, he is a young boy and very disciplined. I am not entertaining the social media talk about him. He’s at school and is part of the Kaizer Chiefs academy at the moment. As a player, he will grow and we will help him to minimise mistakes most importantly.”

The Amakhosi senior won’t be in action this weekend however the reserve team will be taking on on Royal AM on Saturday afternoon.

With Vilakazi making waves for the reserve team, it may just be a question of time before we see him make the step up to the Kaizer Chiefs senior team!
