Kaizer Chiefs supporters have a habit of booing a striker when he’s misfiring and Ranga Chivaviro is no different.

Kaizer Chiefs striker Ranga Chivaviro has opened up about jeers from Amakhosi fans and how he dealt with them.

The 31-year-old striker has had a tough debut season at Chiefs scoring just four times. At one point, Amakhosi supporters booed the former Marumo Gallants star as goals dried up for the club. Chivaviro signed a two-year deal with the Glamour Boys last year hoping to replicate his Gallants form but things got difficult as Amakhosi failed to compete for top honours.

The Kaizer Chiefs striker has opened up on how he dealt with fans and criticism.

“As a professional, you try to stay calm; the expectations are high [because] Chiefs are not a small team, it is a very big institution,” Chivaviro told iDiski Times.

“I understand that it is coming from a place of wanting to win from the fans, and I take that positively and I hope as we go forward, I get to live up to my expectations or even surpass them.”

Before he joined Amakhosi, Chivaviro scored 17 goals in 30 matches across all the competitions during the 2022/23 season. Kaizer Chiefs were quick to sign the striker from Marumo Gallants after his explosive season. The Limpopo-born forward has not shown his quality last season although he finished the season strongly.

Amakhosi fans are not new to booing strikers

With a new coach taking over from Cavin Johnson, it might be what Chivaviro needs to get back to his best. Kaizer Chiefs supporters have a habit of booing strikers when the team is not firing up front. Caleb Bimenyimana and Kingston Nkhatha are some of the former Chiefs players who were jeered by fans.

With new changes coming, Kaizer Chiefs could bring in another striker to assist Chivaviro and Ashley Du Preez.
