Kaizer Chiefs step up chase for 50+ goal striker, but there could be a problem…

Kaizer Chiefs are believed to be back in the race for a red hot striker who they were also linked to last season, from Yanga SC.

Chiefs’ woes in front of goal this season have been well documented, therefore it is no surprise that they are linked to Fiston Kalala Mayele once again.

Just under a year ago it is was even reported by journalists on the continent that Chiefs had wrapped up the signing of Mayele. Those rumours proved to be false, however, with club officials from both Amakhosi and Yanga, combining to refute those claims. Recent reports documenting that period of the links suggested that the move was in fact close to happening.

It didn’t end up happening however, but Mayele proved to be undeterred by that as he continued his incredible goal scoring form for Yanga this season. The 28-year-old has scored 30 goals in all competitions this season, and recently made scored a goal that won him a the CAF goal of the Week award, which would have also undoubtedly attracted the interest of Chiefs in his services once again.

Even though a move did not materialise the last time around, it is now being reported that Yanga are willing to cash in on Mayele, with Chiefs one of a number of teams that will have to pay the Tanzanian champions the big bucks if they are to convince them to sell the Congolese marksman to them.

This publication reported earlier in the week that Mayele has also attracted interest from the likes of Al Hilal, Al Marrikh, Raja Casablanca as well as an unnamed club from Turkey. The price Chiefs would have to pay to sign the player was also revealed to be R10 million.

Now that, according iDiski Times, seems to be the sticking point for Chiefs in their pursuit of Mayele. 

Price for Mayele to put Chiefs off?

“Mayele has now emerged as a serious transfer target as they look to bolster their attacking options for next season. However, the stumbling block will now be the transfer fee, with Mayele, who has expressed interest in making a switch to South Africa, still having one year remaining on his current deal at Yanga, as confirmed by the Tanzanian club.” Wrote the publication.

If Chiefs have any ambitions of challenging Mamelodi Sundowns, then they have to be willing to put up the big bucks to get the players that they think will help them challenge the ever growing quality of the Brazilians. That, could start with breaking the bank for Mayele.
