Kaizer Chiefs return to domestic action against Baroka this coming weekend after almost two weeks of inactivity.

The encounter at the Peter Mokaba Stadium is on Saturday with kick-off scheduled for 19:30.

Chiefs coach Stuart Baxter head into this encounter under immense pressure from a section of fans who continue to call for his head.

And that’s because of how ‘poor’ Chiefs have been since his appointment as coach coupled with his team selection and tactics.

In addition, Baxter has also been accused of favoritism by a number of Chiefs fans who want certain players included in the starting line-up.

Those calling for Baxter to be sacked are convinced that Arthur Zwane and Dillon Sheppard would do a better job with the current squad.

But have Chiefs been that bad since Baxter replaced Gavin Hunt at the start of the current season?

Baxter is in his second stint with Chiefs but he hasn’t enjoyed the same success as he did in his first season.

And that’s because Amakhosi are already out of the Nedbank Cup; the first trophy Baxter won in his maiden season with the club.

Chiefs crashed out in the Nedbank Cup Last 32, and ironically, they suffered the same fate during the 2020/21 season – Hunt’s coached team lost 2-1 to Richards Bay FC in the same round.

Now, for the stats pack of the two coaches – Baxter and Hunt – after 19 domestic games with no continental matches included.

Baxter has recorded eight wins, five draws and six losses so far this season, and under his watch, Chiefs missed out on both the MTN8 and Nedbank Cup.

However, Chiefs find themselves up there with the rest of the title chasers as they sit fifth on the DStv Premiership standings.

Under Hunt’s tutelage, Chiefs, after 19 domestic matches, had registered five wins, drawn six and suffered eight defeats.

While the Soweto giants reached the semi-finals of the MTN8 under Hunt, they suffered a humuliating 5-0 aggregate defeat to arch-rivals Orlando Pirates.
