Kaizer Chiefs attacker Ashley Du Preez has hit back at former head coach Steve Barker following comments he made after his side went down against the Glamour Boys.

The Amakhosi edged Stellenbosch 2-1 over the weekend, in a game filled with controversy.

Chiefs were given a penalty and a numerical advantage on the day after Stellenbosch’s Sage Stephens was sent off for a handball outside of his box.

“The players don’t control the referee and linesmen,” Du Preez told the Kaizer Chiefs media department.

“They make the decisions. We are just there to do our best.”

What did Steve Barker say?

“One must congratulate Kaizer Chiefs, they seem to be a team that puts others under a lot of pressure when you getting, 11, 12 penalties a season. Last six matches, three red cards in the first half to the opposition,” an irritated Steve Barker said after the match as quoted by IdiskiTimes.

“Well done to them. They must be doing something right and creating problems for the opposition – I’m disappointed in the referee today.

“I think Kaizer Chiefs had double-figure freekicks around the box. Dolly has three or four pots, Mashiane, Shabalala had some chances to take.

“I’m not denying some of them were freekicks but I’m not sure why we didn’t get any in that final third around the box where Iqraam Rayners was held on many occasions.

“I’m not to sure what it is, maybe it’s the black and gold jersey that is intimidating, the crowd intimidating.”
