Kaizer Chiefs head coach Stuart Baxter has confirmed that the Amakhosi will be without key players due to both COVID-19 and suspensions.

Baxter’s side are due to make the short trip to Dobsonville to face fellow Soweto side Swallows FC this afternoon.

The Glamour Boys however will be without a number of first team players. Njabulo Blom and Cole Alexander are ruled out through suspension while unnamed members of the squad have also contracted COVID-19, Baxter confirmed.

“We have a few cases of COVID-19 and the suspensions. In addition, we have the normal injuries that everyone else has.” – Kaizer Chiefs head coach Stuart Baxter told the club’s official website.

“Does that mean that we have an excuse to have a day off against Swallows? Certainly not, we will put out a team that will win the game.

“We had a meeting with the players, where I said to them that if anybody thinks there is an excuse, they should not come to the game.

“Kaizer Chiefs know how we are going to play, and we know how Swallows play. It’s going to be a good competitive game. It’s a derby and we want it to be treated in that way.

“Kaizer Chiefs are up for it. It has been a challenge and the players have got to answer that challenge. We are not going to be doing anything we don’t know against Swallows.

Swallows head into today’s clash in shocking circumstances. The Dube birds are on a twelve match winless run!

Kaizer Chiefs on the other hand will be desperate for three points themselves. Stuart Baxter’s side played out to a disappointing 1-1 draw against AmaZulu in their previous encounter.
