Former Kaizer Chiefs man Morgan Gould believes the Glamour Boys are on an upward trajectory can kick on from their Soweto Derby win.

Just before the international break, Kaizer Chiefs snatched a 1-0 win over Orlando Pirates thanks to an extraordinary Yusuf Maart long-range effort.

Will Kaizer Chiefs use their Soweto Derby win as a springboard?

Gould feels that the derby win will give Arthur Zwane’s team confidence.

“I think they are progressing and you need to look at how they won the (Soweto) derby,” Gould told IOL.

“Any former Chiefs and Pirates player will tell you how much that means for both clubs and what sort of perspective it gives you moving forward.

“They are making forward strides and they will continue to progress even further.

“I like the process they’re going through right now, the hype, the disappointments, and the dismay because it will challenge them because what’s key is how you bounce back from all of these setbacks.”

Zwane’s leadership is also questioned unfairly, according to Gould.

“They (Chiefs) know what they want from him. He knows what they expect him to do, so I don’t think it’s fair that anyone of us question whether he’s the right or wrong man to lead Chiefs,” Gould said.

“We just need to support the team and if you don’t support, then just watch.”

Kaizer Chiefs didn’t give Gavin Hunt or Stuart Baxter a second season to prove themselves after they failed to get the club what they wanted on the pitch.

However, Zwane might have a more forgiving timeline laid out for him by the top brass.

Sundowns look set to run away with the league but if Kaizer Chiefs can keep the heat on them through the second half of the season it would give the fans and owners confidence in Zwane’s vision.
