Kaizer Chiefs legend yet to retire from football despite being 38!

A Kaizer Chiefs legend has dismissed any talk of retirement from playing football despite fast-approaching 40 years.

A Kaizer Chiefs legend has dismissed any talk of retirement from playing football despite fast-approaching 40 years.

Siphiwe Tshabalala was speaking to journalists at KONKA in Soweto on Thursday where Nedbank Cup and its ambassadors had an event.

Now, Tshabalala, who hasn’t had a team since leaving AmaZulu at the end of the 2020-21 season, said he’s at a level where he can say he wants to make a comeback to football.

However, Shabba, as he’s affectionately known, will not just take anything and everything that comes his way for the sake of playing football.

Because in his own words, he is NOT desperate, adding that he will make it public for everyone to know when it’s time for him to quit football.

Tshabalala revealed that he still trains everyday and plays competitive football at least once a week to ensure that he stays fit.

“I am at a level where I can say I want to go and play here. I would not want to play for the sake of playing,” said Tshabalala.

“I am not in a situation where I take everything that comes my way. I am not desperate. When I retire, I will tell you.

“I am still training, a lot, and I still play matches once a week. I am very active and still fit to play. I still love football and love playing the sport,” added Tshabalala.

TSHABALALA SERVED KAIZER CHIEFS AND BAFANA BAFANA WITH DISTINCTION

Tshabalala emerged at Free State Stars before making a switch and a name for himself at Kaizer Chiefs between 2007 and 2018.

He was also a regular for Bafana Bafana, earning a whopping 90 caps and scoring 12 goals, including that 2010 FIFA World Cup beauty on home soil.

Tshabalala also got to play in Europe with Turkish outfit BB Erzurumspor, and and this happened in the twilight of his career before he returned to join AmaZulu.
