Sundowns had recently lost out to MLS side Minnesota United for the services of Bafana Bafana international Bongokuhle Hlongwane, and now they have turned their attentions back on Mbule.

Mbule speculation rife during previous window

Mbule speculation had become the one the, if not the hottest talking point of the previous transfer window, with DStv Premiership giants, Chiefs and Sundowns rumoured to have been going toe to toe for the 23-year-old’s signature. During this period, Supersport United were hoping that they would be able to rather sell the player off to a club abroad, rather than to any of their two local rivals.

New twist!

The Mbule saga seemed to ramble on all the way to the last day of the previous transfer window, with both Chiefs and Sundowns believed to be in a two-horse race. With every new report that came out, it appeared as if the lead in the race for the South African junior international was exchanging between the two giants. The latest from that transfer window was that, Chiefs were the club which was closest to reaching an agreement for the player, but it now seems like, in a fashion true to this saga, there has been another twist!

According to Soccer-Laduma, it is now Sundowns who are rumoured to be close to securing an agreement for Mbule, therefore beating Chiefs to yet another long-term target.

Sundowns close to beating Chiefs to his signature?

“But with this saga rapidly unravelling, the latest news reaching the desk of the Siya crew is that Sundowns and SuperSport are close to reaching an agreement with regards to a transfer fee for the playmaker (Mbule). Given that the two clubs are close to an agreement, a possible deal will depend on whether the ‘Master Chef’ agrees on personal terms with Sundowns and whether he is open to making a move to Chloorkop.”
