Kaizer Chiefs’ senior team returned from their World Cup-enforced break on Thursday to start preparing for the resumption of the 2022-23 DStv Premiership programme, and coach Arthur Zwane reported a virtually clean bill of health for the entire squad.

BREAKING: CHIEFS ISSUE MAJOR INJURY UPDATE!

Chiefs close the year 2022 with an away fixture against Lamontville Golden Arrows on 31 December at the Princess Magogo Stadium in KwaMashu, Durban, while after that game they will close the first half of the season when they host their first match of the year on their 53rd birthday on 7 January 2023 at FNB Stadium against Sekhukhune United. This will be game number 15 of the current campaign.

In an update issued by the club on Friday, it was revealed that Chiefs will play some all-important friendlies in the coming weeks as they look to get players back up to speed.

“We’ve got a few friendlies lined up and these will help with us with our fitness levels before we play that competitive match on New Year’s eve against Arrows. We hope that no one picks up any injury during the next four weeks so we are ready for that particular game,” he says.

Meanwhile, Zwane said his team looks good because they gave all the players programmes after the last competitive match to ensure they maintain some level of fitness during the break.

“We welcomed all the guys back on Thursday morning and they looked sharp. We are very happy with what we saw at training,” coach Arthur Zwane enthused.

When quizzed about injuries the Kaizer Chiefs mentor said: “There are no injuries to report except for a bout of flu that has attacked Phathutshedzo Nange and Kgaogelo Sekgota. They will receive the necessary treatment from the medical team and I’m sure they will start training next new week with the team.”

Two of Amakhosi players who joined the Bafana Bafana camp after the Carling Black Label Cup, Njabulo Blom and Kgaogelo Sekgota, also returned with rest of the group on Thursday. The duo did national duty when Bafana Bafana played against Mozambique and Angola in two international friendlies during the PSL break in Nelspruit.

“Njabulo and Kgaogelo came back with the rest of the team. They look sharp and will continue their preparations with the squad for the next encounter. We are also happy Blom has recovered after missing the Carling Black Label Cup match” adds Zwane.
