Kaizer Chiefs settled for a 1-1 draw against Benni McCarthy’s AmaZulu in their DStv Premiership clash at the FNB Stadium on Wednesday after playing the last 30 minutes with 10 men.

The Glamour Boys ‘scored’ the opening goal of the match in the 20th minute thanks to an own goal by Keagan Buchanan to take a 1-0 lead into the half-time break.

Kaizer Chiefs were then reduced to 10 men when Cole Alexander was shown a red card for a second bookable offence in the 60th minute.

AmaZulu took advantage of their numerical superiority to draw level in the 77th minute thanks to a goal from Bongi Ntuli.

AmaZulu’s Samkelo Mgwazela received his marching orders in the 85th minute, also following two yellow cards, but Usuthu were able to shut up shop and hold on for the draw.

The stalemate saw Kaizer Chiefs move into sixth place in the standings, eight points behind log leaders Mamelodi Sundowns having played one more match.

AmaZulu stayed eighth, a full 11 points behind the Brazilians.

Amakhosi will next be in action away to struggling Swallows on Sunday, 28 November at 15:30, while AmaZulu will take on Maritzburg United in the KwaZulu-Natal derby on the same day at 17:30.
