Kaizer Chiefs rebuild: These SIX senior stars should leave the club

The Kaizer Chiefs rebuild of 2023 is well underway. These six senior stars need to make way for hungrier alternatives.

The great Kaizer Chiefs rebuild of 2023 is underway, but there’s plenty of work still to be done for it to come to fruition and start delivering results.

Trimming the wage bill

Amakhosi management have a bunch of high-earners on their books who aren’t necessarily pulling their weight. As a result, they’ll be viewed as assets with a value that is diminishing drastically by the day.

Kaizer Chiefs senior stars who could get shown the door

Eric Mathoho

‘Tower’ has enjoyed a stellar career at Naturena but he’s reaching the end of his career, and the centre-back’s twilight years will surely be spent at another club.

Itumeleng Khune

The club captain is no longer first choice between the sticks and that must be an unfamiliar feeling for the legendary keeper. His massive wages are also not a help to Amakhosi’s bottom line.

Keagan Dolly

Another man earning a lot of cash with the Glamour Boys is former Montpellier man Keagan Dolly. The undoubtedly talented, versatile star has battled to produce consistent displays in a Chiefs jersey. It’s time for the club to move on from him.

Khama Billiat

Where do we begin with Billiat? Once upon time, this was the most scintillating wide attacker in the country. The 32-year-old former Sundowns man, winner of 2016’s PSL Player of the year award, has been plagued by injuries and that has hampered his ability to display the quality we all know he has. It’s a crying shame that Kaizer Chiefs fans never got to see the best of Billiat in a black and gold jersey. It begs the question, will they ever see him donning the colours again?

Siyethemba Sithebe

Despite rumours that a new contract for the ex-AmaZulu man might be on the table, it’s difficult to see a long-term future for Sithebe at Chiefs. He’s not a regular first-team pick under Arthur Zwane, and he’s already 30 years old and not showing signs of improvement.

Kgaogelo Sekgota

The creative midfielder’s output of goals and assists is extremely poor, and that’s how attacking players are measured, even in the modern game where work ethic and tactical smartness are as important as ever. He’s the only player in this list under the age of 30, but we feel it’s time for him to go.

So, Amakhosi fans? Would you be sad if the club moved these six players on and looked for hungry, young replacements? This Kaizer Chiefs rebuild could be looked back upon as a watershed moment in the club’s history, one way or another.
