Chiefs’ R3m striker pursuit REJECTED – report

The Chiefs apparently made a move for young striker Tiklas Thutlwa in December and January, but their offer was rejected by Leopards.

In the middle of last year it was reported that Chiefs had reignited interest in Thutlwa, but Leopards general manager Tshifhiwa ‘Chief’ Thidiela always insisted that there were only certain terms that they would consider.

“There is no one who has officially approached us. There is just talk in the streets,” Thidiela told GOAL last June. “However, obviously, if they do approach us we would consider the offer. We have always moved players as a club.”

The youngster had caught the attention of some clubs after netting 16 goals in 29 National First Division matches during the 2021-22 campaign, and in a new report by Soccer Laduma, Chiefs apparently tabled an offer around R3m during the FIFA World Cup break, which they then increased this past January.

However, this was rejected by Leopards who are desperate to retain the services of a crucial player as they look to avoid relegation from the First Division.

“The first offer was from Kaizer Chiefs in December during the World Cup break,” a Soccer Laduma source commented. “It was R3-million but the chairman turned it down. Both Chiefs and then Stellenbosch FC offered R4-million in January just before the transfer window closed and he also turned them down.”

There have been plenty of player rumours related to Chiefs of late

Meanwhile, Chiefs’ pursuit of playmaker Mduduzi Mdantsane seems to be a no-go unless the club can negotiate a transfer fee.

Towards the end of last year, it was rumoured that Chiefs were interested in talented Mdantsane, who is apparently valued at around R18 million by Cape Town City.

The 27-year-old hasn’t enjoyed the finest start to the season, but the thought process was that he could add some much needed quality to the Chiefs’ attacking midfielder depth.

According to KickOff.com, Chiefs reignited interested in Mdantsane late on in the transfer window, while Sekhukhune were also reportedly very interested, but both clubs were apparently unable to meet the transfer fee demanded.

It’s further reported in the latest edition of Soccer Laduma that Cape Town City are set to exercise Mdantsane’s one-year contract option, and it seems Chiefs are unlikely to successfully secure his services when his original deal ends after June this year.

Chiefs would have to negotiate a transfer fee if they were serious about trying to land the signature of the 28-year-old, but the odds are seemingly not in their favour.
