Do we all recall how Kaizer Chiefs was formed after Kaizer Motaung left Orlando Pirates? Perhaps we forgot the details or we’re too young. Whatever it is, great stories are meant to be retold.

KAIZER CHIEFS FORMED AFTER BRA K TURNS ON ORLANDO PIRATES

As the story goes, Kaizer Motaung began his career as a Pirates superstar before his outstanding talent took him to the United States.

It was there in the States where he played for Atlanta Chiefs. Back home, his former club Pirates battled internal issues which included a few key players leaving Bucs.

Bra K, known as “Chincha Guluva” was soon back home in an attempt to resolve the crisis at Pirates.

It never took long for him to realise that his efforts were not bearing any fruit. His next idea would change South African football forever.

He decided to forget about Pirates and form his own team which would eventually become Kaizer Chiefs.

“Motaung’s former club Orlando Pirates was suffering internal problems and team manager Ewert Nene and three players were expelled,” Amakhosi say on the club’s website.

“After Atlanta Chiefs finished the 1969 season, Motaung returned home and tried to resolve the impasse.

“He was, however, unsuccessful. Out of these circumstances, the Kaizer XI was formed in late 1969.

“The positive response from the supporters made Motaung consider setting up his own club, using the lessons learnt from the United States.

“Above all, he thought, it should be a professionally run club with players getting paid the money they were promised.

“That might sound normal these days, but at the time most South African club bosses said one thing and did the opposite. Not Motaung, his word is his word. That’s how Kaizer Chiefs came into existence on 7 January 1970.”

AMAKHOSI YET TO DECIDE ON SIX SENIOR PLAYER CONTRACTS

Switching to the present time, the club has unusually yet to sort out the future of no less than six senior players in Stuart Baxter’s team.

Kaizer Chiefs are leaving it rather late. There are just four months left but several Amakhosi stars may be in the dark regarding their futures at Naturena. Read the full story here.
