There is a new twist in the matter involving Kaizer Chiefs and the PSL which the country believed it was put to rest last week.

Amakhosi won at the South African Football Association (SAFA) arbitration where advocate Nazeer Cassim SC ruled in their favour.

And the arbitration award was that Chiefs be allowed to play the two league fixtures they couldn’t honour in December against Cape Town City and Golden Arrows.

Chiefs couldn’t honour the said fixtures because of Covid-19 that hit their base in Naturena – and they had requested for a postponement of their matches.

However, their request was rejected, and with that said, Chiefs took the matter to the SAFA arbitration where they won the case against the PSL.

Now, the PSL, through prosecutor Zola Majavu, has confirmed that they intend to take the matter on review – meaning both the league and Chiefs will be heading to court over the matter.

“I hereby provide you with a further update on the disciplinary proceedings involving Kaizer Chiefs Football Club,” said Majavu in a statement.

“The matter was previously postponed to the 28th to the 30th of March on the understanding and pending the finalization of the arbitration.

“The arbitrator since decided this matter on the 18th of March 2020. Subsequently, thereafter, the league indicated that it would exercise its right to take the arbitrators out on review. In the light there of, when the matter resumed before the PSL DC today, I removed the matter from the roll and reserved the league prosecutor’s rights to reconsider the matter.”

“When the review application is finalized, and depending on the outcome there of. In the intervening period, there will be no commentary from myself on this matter and rather await the outcome of the review process.”

“As matters stand the matter before the PSL DC now stands adjourned,” concluded Majavu.
