The PSL Executive Committee will reportedly sit and study the Kaizer Chiefs victory at the South African Football Association (SAFA) arbitration.

Amakhosi had taken their Covid-19 matter relating to the two missed fixtures in December 2021 with the PSL to the arbitration at the start of the 2022.

And that’s because the PSL had threatened to charge and punish them for their failure to honour the league fixtures against Cape Town City and Golden Arrows.

Exercising their legal right, Chiefs took the matter to the SAFA arbitration where they were vindicated after the order made it clear that the league must allow them to play the two missed fixtures.

Now, acccording to sources known to Daily Sun, the PSL Exco has called an urgent meeting where the arbitration’s ruling will be studied in detail.

The aim of the meeting is for the PSL top brass to decide whether to take the Chiefs matter forward or accept it as is and move on.

The publication further reports that a number of PSL club bosses, including John Comitis (Cape Town City) and Mato Madlala (Golden Arrows) are not happy that the SAFA arbitration ruled in favour of Chiefs.

PSL SHOT THEMSELVES IN THE FOOT WITH CAPE UMOYA UNITED RULING

The PSL find itself in a tight corner after the SAFA arbitration’s ruling, and one would agree that they shot themselves in the foot with the Cape Umoya United decision.

Cape Umoya United had a depleted squad due to positive Covid-19 cases within their camp, and their request to have their game against Cape Town Spurs postponed was rejected.

As a result, they lost the points to the Mother City-based side, and they accepted the league’s ruling without considering the SAFA arbitration.

In so doing, the PSL set a precedence, and that formed part of their argument at the arbitration which was thrown out of the window by arbitrator and advocate Nazeer Cassim SC.

Now, the Chiefs victory means clubs are now wiser and may challenge PSL decisions in relation to positive Covid-19 cases.

According to the rules set by the league, no team should use Covid-19 as an excuse to not honour their fixtures – but that rule is expected to be reviewed by the PSL Exco on Tuesday.
