The South African Police Service (SAPS) confirmed that an Amakhosi player was arrested on Wednesday night and later released on R1 000 bail.

According to reports, 26-year-old Zuma was arrested during a roadblock in Sandton on Wednesday while driving during the current midnight to 04:00 curfew hours, prompting police to stop him.

He was found to be above the legal alcohol limit.

Kaizer Chiefs have subsequently released a statement confirming they would investigate the reported incident.

The statement read: “Kaizer Chiefs has noted with concern the reports about its attacking midfielder Dumsani Zuma in the media. The Club is currently conducting investigations about the reported incident.

“We view the matter in a very serious light and the player will be subjected to a disciplinary hearing in the next number of days.”

Pietermaritzburg-born Zuma, who has been out of action with a long-term knee injury since May, is now awaiting a trial date.
