It has just been a month since the DStv Premiership concluded but Kaizer Chiefs have already begun their preseason training.

Amakhosi had their worst season since the inception of the Premier Soccer League(PSL). The Soweto giants finished a disappointing 10th last season and will not feature in the MTN8 when the new campaign kicks off. On a brighter note, the Glamour Boys have signed a new coach Nasreddine Nabi. The 58-year-old Tunisian coach is set to join the club next week.

According to FARPost, Kaizer Chiefs welcomed their new assistant coach Fernando Da Cruz and goalkeeper coach Ilyes Mzoughi for the first time during their frist preseason training on Monday. The coaches were introduced to the players that were available.

About nine Khosi players missed the preseason session on Monday. Keagan Dolly, Siyethemba Sithebe, Njabulo Ngcobo, Sifiso Hlanti, Tebogo Potsane, George Matlou, Edmilson Dove, Edson Castillo and Jasond Gonzalez are the absent players.

Matlou and Potsane are still injured and are expected to stay at the club. Castillo and Dove were away on national duty but are expected to return. Castillo however has been heavily linked to North Africa in the past few months.

Dolly, Sithebe, Hlanti and Gonzalez are out of contract and might not return to Kaizer Chiefs given they are not part of the preseason team. Ngcobo already signed with Sekhukhune United last week.

Amakhosi resume training early

Long-serving goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune was reportedly in the Kaizer Chiefs preseason squad on Monday. The 37-year-old’s contract with the club expires at the end of this week.
