Kaizer Chiefs are reported to be preparing a multi-million offer for one of their SuperSport United targets ahead of next season.

According to a source known to The Citizen, Amakhosi have stepped up their interest in Sipho Mbule, and an official offer is reported to be on the cards.

Mbule, however, is also wanted by Mamelodi Sundowns, meaning the two Gauteng clubs are more likely to go head-to-head for the signature of the 23-year-old.

“You must remember that Hunt is used to do things his own way like he has been in the past 10 or so years at SuperSport (United) and (Bidvest) Wits. Now at Chiefs he has a big team making decisions on matters like who is signed and all of that. It’s not easy,” said the source.

Mbule has been on the rise this season after his full potential was unleashed by Kaitano Tembo who lost Dean Furman in mid-2020.

Should Chiefs indeed table an offer for Mbule, it is expected to be in millions of Rands simply because Matsatsantsa have previously made it clear that they will not sell any of their star players locally.

What’s unclear at this stage though, is whether or not Gavin Hunt will have a say in the possible signing of Mbule.

And that’s because reports suggest Hunt could be replaced by former Amakhosi coach Stuart Baxter at the end of the current season after what has been a dismal campaign.
