Kaizer Chiefs: FULL LIST of coach and captain options

Kaizer Chiefs could have a new coach and captain in charge next season. We take a look at the full list of current candidates for both roles.

Amakhosi management wants to hire a senior coach to assist Arthur Zwane.

Amakhosi management are strongly considering hiring Mngqithi. He is exactly what they want – a senior coach who has experience winning the PSL.

Furthermore, he has worked as a co-coach before, alongside Rhulani Mokwena at Sundowns before he was demoted.

Mosimane is the dream selection because he is arguably the best coach in Africa. Also, he is loved by South Africans and he has a tendency to turn around teams fortunes. This is exactly what Amakhosi need after 8 years without silverware.

Moreover, his agent and wife Moira Mosimane hinted at Mosimane’s next project. With several of her hints sound a lot like Amakhosi…

Finally, former Bafana Bafana captain Molefi Ntseki was offered the Amakhosi job but he declined.

WILDCARDS FOR CHIEFS COACHING ROLE: BENNI MCCARTHY AND DOCTOR KHUMALO

Amakhosi are interested in appointing a striker coach. Meaning, they could consider McCarthy. However, he is contracted to Manchester United and he is happy with his London. He is also earning a staggering R3.2 million a month which is roughly four times Zwane’s estimated Amakhosi salary.

Meanwhile, Amakhosi legend Khumalo has experience coaching Amakhosi having worked as co-coach with Donald ‘Ace; Khuse during the 2002/03 season. Furthermore, he coached the U-17 Amakhosi side and U-17 national team. The only thing working against him is his lack of senior coaching experience in recent years. Meaning, both men are unlikely to receive offers from Amakhosi management.

NEXT AMAKHOSI CAPTAIN – FULL LIST OF CANDIDATES

• YUSUF MAART
• ZITHA KWINIKA

Khune’s contract is about to expire and Amakhosi management have not made a decision on his future yet. Meaning, there is the possibility of him leaving. Furthermore, even if his contract is extended he is no longer first choice. Last season, Dolly wore the captains armband more than Khune as Arthur Zwane opted for Brandon Peterson as his first choice goalkeeper.

So, Dolly is the favourite to takeover the Amakhosi captaincy if Khune’s contract is not extended or here mains second choice. He is a regular starter, a fan-favourite and he has plenty of experience having played for Bafana Bafana, Mamelodi Sundowns and Montpellier in France.

However, at the age of 30, he is in the latter stages of his career. This opens the door to players such as Maart and Kwinika.

Maart wore the armband towards the end of the recent season when Dolly as Dolly was ruled out for the rest of the season. Meaning, Amakhosi management have identified him as one of the leaders of this squad. Kwinika has captained Stellenbosch FC before but he has never lead Amakhosi and he lacks national experience which is why he is unlikely to be selected.

WILDCARDS FOR AMAKHOSI CAPTAINCY: SIFISO HLANTI AND GIVEN MSIMANGO

Hlanti is one of the most experienced members in this squad (alongside Khune). The PSL veteran is also key member of the current Amakhosi squad.

While Msimango was the former TS Galaxy captain. He leads with his performances on the field and he could be a future Amakhosi captain someday. The only reason he isn’t a main candidate is because he is a new recruit.
