Kaizer Chiefs are working on signing Bafana Bafana and Sekhukhune United star Yusuf Maart.

The former Orlando Pirates academy graduate has been identified as a priority signing by Kaizer Chiefs and according to reports, the 26-year-old could make his way to Naturena during the upcoming January transfer window.

Maart who joined the Orlando Pirates development structure in 2016, was promoted to the Buccaneers first team in 2017 however he failed to make the grade at the time.

After making two appearances for the Buccaneers, he was loaned out to Cape Umoya United before being released by Orlando Pirates in 2019. He then joined Sekhukhune United before playing a pivotal role in their promotion to the DStv Premiership last season.

Kaizer Chiefs have since identified the Sekhukhune United captain as a new recruit however he’s still contracted to the club until 2023 which means the Amakhosi will have to make an offer for the Bafana Bafana star.

“There is an interest from Kaizer Chiefs in Sekhukhune United’s Yusuf Maart and the player is being monitored by Chiefs. Yusuf could move to Chiefs as early as in January next year if the two clubs (Kaizer Chiefs and Sekhukhune) could agree on his transfer,” – an unnamed source told SoccerLaduma.

Yusuf Maart has made six appearances for Sekhukhune United in the DStv Premiership so far this season registering one assist. The midfielder also has six Bafana Bafana caps.

Maart could prove to be the attacking spark Kaizer Chiefs have been missing so far this season. He’s likely to play in an attacking midfield position in front of the likes of Phathutshedzo Nange and Cole Alexander.

Amakhosi to sign foreigner in January?

According to reports, Kaizer Chiefs are also looking at opening up their foreign quota spaces ahead of the January transfer window.

Zambian striker Lazalous Kambole is set to be sacrificed to open up a foreign slot according to Kick-off.

“Zambian forward Lazarous Kambole remains touted for a move to East Africa with Kaizer Chiefs expected to reshuffle their foreign quota in the next transfer window.” the publication reported.

“With the PSL regulations now allowing for clubs to reshuffle their foreign quota in mid-season, Chiefs will be opening up space which will allow them to bring in new players that Baxter will use.”
