SAFA have responded to the demands of millions of Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates supporters for fans to return ahead of the Soweto derby!

The most anticipated derby in SA football is around the corner but will fans be allowed into the stadium?

It has been almost a full two years since the Soweto derby was packed with 90 000 supporters. For a matter of fact, since there was a single supporter allowed into the stands.

Now fans are demanding to return and what a perfect game to mark a return. Rugby supporters have started to allow 2000 fans back into the stadium for the United Rugby Championship and Currie Cup, respectively.

So, will the PSL allow Amakhosi and Bucs fans into the stands? SAFA issued a key update on fans demands while pointing fingers at the PSL!

“The PSL, just like us, have to apply to the minister of sports for the return of fans. We, as Safa, should not be doing that on their behalf. So we have nothing to do with this,” stated SAFA COO Lydia Monyepao.

“You saw we opened for fans in Bafana Bafana games,” added Monyepao on iDiskiTimes.

SAFA have approved the return of fans to stadiums already. 2000 Bafana Bafana supporters were allowed to witness their home games against Zimbabwe and Ethiopia. Therefore, the ball is in the PSL’s court.

Meaning, they must apply to the minister of sport in order to welcome fans back in time for the Soweto derby.
